A blended whisky is the product of blending different types of whisky, (malt & grain), blending whisky from different distilleries, blending whisky from different age groups, or a combination of all of these. It is generally the product of mixing one or more higher-quality single malt whisky with less expensive spirits and other ingredients. This typically allows for a lower priced finished product, although expensive "premium" varieties also exist. Blended whiskies can be exceptional and a good example of this is the Nikka from the Barrel, or any of the other Nikka ranges.
